20th CRHM GRADUATION

NAIROBI - FRIDAY 9TH JUNE 2017: The College of Human Resource Management held their 20th Graduation Ceremony of 573 graduates at St. Andrews Church along Nyerere Road/State House Avenue, Nairobi from 10:00am.

Dr. Nicholas Letting, Vice-Chancellor- Management University of Africa (MUA), graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest.

Addressing the graduates and the attendees, Dr. Nicholas Letting told them to continue learning and embrace competency based skills and knowledge in the 21st Century, as they embark on being leaders who are capable to be innovative and transform others that are led.

“Key hallmarks in the HR profession in my view include: continuous professional development, emotional intelligence, networking, effective communication and positive interpersonal relationship.

HR Practitioners are now more than ever before expected to promote business partnerships, shorten the recruitment, on-board new staff faster, improve productivity and effectiveness, improve employee satisfaction, identify gaps between present and needed skill requirements and translate vision into behaviors needed in the world of work,” he said.

The College of Human Resource Management (CHRM), formerly, IHRM College, is a leading middle level academic institution in Kenya, and was established in 1997 as the training arm of Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM), the Professional Body for HR Practitioners in Kenya.

CHRM are committed to developing the human resource required for the management of people at the workplace in both the public and private sectors of the economy.

In attendance as guests were the chairman of IHRM council Mr. Elijah Sitimah, the Principal of CHRM – Madam Margaret Kinyanjui, IHRM executive director – Madam Dorcas Wainaina, members of the IHRM council & the CHRM board and the chairperson of the CHRMAA – Mr. Benard Ambasa

The Principal, Madam Margaret Kinyanjui, first congratulated the graduands and reiterated that CHRM graduands were not leaving the college with just another certificate to add to a host of others that they have, but had most importantly acquired learning that will make them competitive in the labor market.

“We are proud as a College to know that most employers always will give preference to job candidates who hold our HR qualifications when recruiting.  So as I stand here today, I wish to reassure and re-affirm to the Graduands that they should be thoroughly proud of the various Certificates they receive today, which will be a key to their success in their HR Careers,” she said.

On his part Mr. Bernard Ambasa (the Chairperson of CHRMAA) stated that the programmes are tailored to meet the education and training needs of both potential and practicing Human Resource Professionals for effective management of people at the workplace.

Mr. Bernard Ambasa went further to challenge the graduates to rise to the occasion and put to practice your HR knowledge and skills to enhance organizational productivity for national economic growth.

“I am looking forward to reading success stories on how you have effectively implemented best HR practices using people-focused operational policies in your organizations,” he said.

The highlight of the graduation ceremony was the awarding of the certificates by Dr. Nicholas Letting as the amazing band sang songs of jubilation. On a light moment, some students had taken their certificates in a hurry - without taking photos - only to come back for the second moment to shake Dr.Letting’s hand.

Before that Mr.Letting gave a remarkable quote from the book “How the Mighty Fail and Why Some Companies Never Give In, where Jim Collins said “Whether you prevail or fail, endure or die, depends more on what you do yourself than on what the world does to you.”

‘’The choices you make now and in the future will result in appropriate consequences. Endeavour to make the right and morally right choices always yield positive memorable results,’’ he concluded.

Mr Letting awarded certificates to the graduating classes of the Higher Diploma, Diploma and Certificate classes of July and November 2016.

The 2017 Graduation Ceremony marked the culmination of a significant CHRM college experience.

Over and above the educational and academic programs CHRM offers they have now brought on board skills development programs to help their trainees enhance their skills.  To ensure that their students benefit from these, they have heavily subsidized the cost to enable ongoing students to enroll for the same.

In partnership with the CPD Committee of IHRM, those taking the programs will earn CPD points if they are members of IHRM.
